Artist Biography

Isobel Rayson is an Australian multidisciplinary artist based in Carwoola, New South Wales. She graduated with First Class Honours from the Australian National University School of Art in 2014 and was selected for the coveted Canberra Contemporary Artist-in-Residence award.

Known for her highly resolved and carefully considered works, Rayson has held fifteen solo exhibitions and participated in group shows across public and commercial galleries in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, and Geelong. She has undertaken local and international residencies, including a month-long residency on Vancouver Island, Canada, which culminated in an exhibition of works developed during her stay.

In 2025, she received the Young and Early Career Artist Award for her work Enclosed, submitted to the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award. Throughout the year, Rayson was named a finalist in twelve national art prizes, including the Kedumba Drawing Award, the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, and the Wollongong Art Prize. Most recently, she was announced as a finalist in the 2026 Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, the Ravenswood Art Prize, and the National Works on Paper at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.

Rayson is currently preparing for a solo exhibition at Sevenmarks Gallery, Kiama, opening in May 2026.
